Marquette Elevator Addition / USMS Renovation / USDC Renovation

The United States Post Office and Court House were designed and constructed in the mid-1930s. The building is currently occupied by the Post Office, United States District Court, and the United States Marshals. Forbes identified key items early in the design process that would be impacted by the proposed renovation and made suggestions for each major historic element to be preserved as-is or reused in the newly renovated spaces. 

The scope includes the addition of an exterior Judge's Elevator for use by the USDC, which will dual as a Prisoner Elevator for use by the USMS. This will provide both prisoners and judges' safety through the use of the dedicated elevator separated from the public. This project includes a comprehensive renovation of the US Marshal Service spaces at the U.S. Post Office and Court House. Several judiciary spaces of the USDC including the renovation of an existing Chambers space and consolidation of Judge's Chambers space on the second floor with the Courtroom. The USMS portion of the renovation includes adding a new secure prisoner holding area on the third floor, new attorney-client interview rooms, a prisoner processing room, a new command center, and new offices and facilities.
